Green Producer Diary

My Motivation

I took inspiration from Chinese culture because it has the biggest clothing production and because the project was in the making right before Chinese New Year, so I made it as a suggestion for zero wasting to the industry. Sustainability is important to me , because it indicates that the product was made by people that are not being treated poorly by a company , that the fabric is good for the enviroment as well as for the person who wears it and makes a product more precious , both physically and mentally .

My Vetrine Journey

At the first stage a difficulty I indored was to mix the Chinese element with todays Western Luxury and my aesthetic as a designer. A second challenge for me was the disassemblement of the pleated satin pants , it was a job that needed presition , in order to not damage the fabric , so I could turn it into a skirt. At the last stage-the sewing was kind of a challenge because the texture of the fabrics made them slippery.

Environmental

I used materials from past projects.

Social

I worked alone on this project , but I took advise from a teacher of mine from college , she has her own sustainable company in Athens and she helped me understand the industry more.

Financial

Technically it costed around 4$,because I only bought the 3

buttons the rest of the materials were the remainings of past projects that I did .

A Message to Consumers

While understanding the consept of using or mixing fabrics that are leftovers from one project to make a completely different and new garment , achieving minimum to zero waste , at the same time I want them to see and appriciate the beauty of chinese garment and that the culture I took inspiration from is one of great history and innovation.

A Message to Future Learners

Be clear about what you bring to the market , don’t be afraid to show your journey and your identity as a Designer and If you think that your target client group doesn’t understand sustainability , teach them through your collections.
